Aixro XR50 Wankel Engine Karts Arrive at Three Sisters
Never heard of a Wankel Rotary Engine kart? We hadn't heard much about them either !!! But when we received the phone call from AIM Motorsport to say that they have a few and wanted to come and do some testing - the opportunity was too good to miss.
The XR50 is just like many other karts in appearance, the only real clue to the performance that you get is the big chain and front brakes (similar to ICC karts), without the gearbox. The engine itself looks rather inocious and in some respects is a little disappointing - no big fins and flash chrome here. The engine is nicely engineered and put together with all the care that you would expect from German engineers.
The Wankel Rotary Engine Kart has been developed as a response to increasing environmental regulations in Europe and the XR50 puts out a fraction of the harmful emissions produced by conventional engines. Despite the low emmissions (in terms of exhaust and also noise), the Wankel 4 cycle rotary motor delivers all the power of a thoroughbred racing motor.
One of the Wankel Rotary Engine Karts in all its glory !!
