Owner Drivers Pro Kart Racing February

18 teams lined up for the 2nd race of the year, the sun was out and it was a great day for racing. CPM took the initiative in qualifying setting a 48.145, enough to put them on pole by 0.129 seconds over Lucas, team 43. Team 7, SAS rounded off the top three with a best lap of 48.314. Some close times, just 2.598 seconds separating all the runners as we moved onto the race.

All the teams got off to a clean start, that is until the pack reached the end of the back straight. The pole sitter ran slightly wide, hitting a damp patch and taking to the grass unfortunately rejoining at the back of the pack. Team 43 swiftly took over the lead, closely followed by Team 7, SAS in 2nd place. The lead swapped on lap 19 with both teams trading places until lap 78. A strong start by Roach valley had them holding 3rd pace until an outstanding move through the pack put our pole sitters, CPM back up to third.

Moving to the middle of the race GKD, team 66 moved forward after a round of pitstops, inheriting the lead on lap 86, taking the fight to SAS, some brilliantly close racing followed with each team matching each other's lap times lap after lap. A testament to the drivers on the day that only one black flag was given throughout the whole event, with a slightly enthusiastic entrance to the pitlane attracting the attention of our marshals.

Into the latter stages of the race SAS consolidated their lead, leading the last 24 laps, taking the chequered after completing 148 laps. A great effort by team 81, CPM put them back into 2nd place, a great result considering the off on the first lap. A good effort from GKD put them in third by the end, slightly disappointing considering their 40 lap tussle with the eventual winners.

Moving on we look forward to the first night race of the year on the 20th of March. With three new teams entering the grid it will hopefully make for some great racing. We look forward to seeing you there!
