Owner Drivers Pro Kart Racing – March

An amazing 30 teams lined up for the 3rd race of the year, our first under the floodlights. CPM took had the pace in qualifying setting a 46.083, although it only put them on pole by 0.072 of a second over McDonald, team 44. Team 43, Lucas rounded off the top three with a best lap of 46.330. Some close times, just 0.247 seconds separating the top three as we moved onto the race.

Despite the packed grid, with teams lining up over the mountain, everyone got off to a clean start. The pole sitter set the early pace and led strongly throughout the race until the closing stages. Team 44 maintained 2nd place until lap 30 with a resurgent GKD 66 moving up from 4th to 2nd in just two laps, taking advantage of opportunities lapping traffic. Another team on the move was team 33 moving from 7th up to 3rd by lap 30.

Early casualties were team 35, EVS racing unfortunately getting collected on lap 15 by a spinner, bending their axle and taking them out of the race. Team 36, Polaris also fell to a similar fate just 6 laps later.

Moving to the middle of the race team 81, CPM continued to dominate with GKD 66 consolidating 2nd place. A 10 lap tussle between RA racing, 33, SAS and McDonald saw the latter come out on top with the top three remaining static for the next 19 laps until it was snatched back my team 42, Lucas on lap 84.

Shortly afterwards an unfortunate incident involving team 10 and 45 saw the red flags coming out. A slight mistake on the entrance to the esses saw kart number 10 spin, the following oncoming driver managed to avoid the kart, however Kart 45, Fastlane, unsighted by the kart in front collected the now stationary kart. Luckily, both drivers, after being checked by the medics escaped without any major injury and the race was restarted.

Into the latter stages of the race the top three remained static with CPM leading, despite being held up in the pits, from GKD 66 and Lucas. Moving through the grid there were some great performances, congratulations particularly to Team Keane, who have been living up to their name in recent weeks, being regulars at the track! They finished the quickest of our new teams.

It looked as if CPM would make it a clean sweep of the race until 6 laps from the end. A slight miscalculation with fuel levels saw them into the pits with fuel starvation. Despite a quick turnaround by the crew they dropped down to 3rd place. Team 44 took the initiative, passing team 66 for third, then 43 for 2nd, and then inheriting the lead after CPM's troubles. So after an eventful race the winners were team 44 McDonald, followed by team 43 Lucas and the unlucky team 81 CPM.

Moving on we look forward to our next race on the 18th of April. We're looking forward to seeing a similar sized grid and some great racing!
